The bedtime story. It’s a pastime that is passed down from generation to generation. I have and still am in my family, the primary bedtime story reader.
Like you working moms and dads, story time can be that sweet moment between waking and sleeping where the day slows down just for a moment. The kids aren’t whining or asking for anything and you aren’t checking your phone. Nirvana.
Friday Confession #10: My Favorite Bedtime Story
A quick google search on “bedtime/stories/kids/important” yields a nauseating amount of bloggers and articles touting the critical importance of reading stories to kids before bedtime. Perhaps my eyes roll because I have a bit of baggage in that no one read stories to me when I was a kid…and I turned out just fine (sarcasm)!
But there are those nights that I just want to collapse on the couch and watch reruns of Game of Thrones – you see I need a bedtime story too. It’s on those nights, when mom is expected to read a story that I reach for “Where the Wild Things Are.”
Not only is it a classic tale that all kids can relate to – who wouldn’t want to sail to a magical world where you are the king of the monsters? – but I can read it in under two minutes. I call that a win-win.
