As a working parent, I rely a great deal on texting to keep up with my kids. To be connected when schedules change, the car pool is late or “hey mom can I buy this ‘fill in the blank.”
But honestly I have a hard time turning it off. Even during important work events where I need to give my undivided attention. If find myself multitasking when it comes to my kids.
Maybe it’s a case of mom guilt because I’m not there . Or maybe it’s just a strange form of FOMO (fear of missing out).
The other day though I took it too far….
Friday Confession 12: Multitasking
I was hosting an online forum on sustainability with our internal collaboration software, Bonfyre. This required me to really pay attention. My job was to answer questions inside the forum, which is a lot like a Facebook’s Live forum.
During the session, I found myself switching from Bonfyre back to texting many times to communicate with my Nanny. Imagine if I had by mistake posted this to the internal forum on sustainability.
“Yes she needs a swim suit for camp today. It’s in her swim bag downstairs”
I mean how unprofessional would that have been? As luck would have it I didn’t mix the forums but it would have been a very easy mistake to make. And honestly I didn’t need to take the risk.
