In some cultures, napping at your desk is a sign of hard work and commitment. The idea is that you spend so much time toiling at the office, you literally fall asleep at your desk.
In Western culture, there has been a resurgence of napping. Even pointing to famous nappers (Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Edison) and the benefits of napping.
Most of us in the typical office environment – especially working moms – would be caught dead napping in full view of colleagues and the boss.
But what if you are running on fumes after being up with a sick kid all night? Or maybe you have an infant who still gets up in the middle of the night?
I Nap In My Office After Sleepless Nights With The Kids
If you work from home you can put your head down here and there, which I highly encourage. But what if you have to be in the office?
When my eyes feel like lead and I just can’t stay awake I have a couple of places I go. One is the car. I will drive to a parking lot where no one I work with will see me and recline the seat for a quick 10 or 15. My other go to is my office. Offices that have doors which close are quickly becoming a thing of the past. But I have lucked out in this department. I went as far as to purchase what I call “a meditation chair,” which you too can have for $150 from PB Teen. I shut my door, turn off my lights and let myself rest for a few.
If you have access to any sort of small conference room you might be able to get a few minutes yourself.
Let’s face it we are human. And sometimes it’s better to take a few minutes to rest then fall asleep in your next meeting (which I have done too by the way – bonus confession there for you).
So tell me mamas, do you ever nap in your office after a sleepless night with your little ones? Tells us about it in the comments below!
