We all need a vacation to slow down, relax and unwind from our fast-paced crazy life. You know; just a little downtime to enjoy family time, a get-away (or staycation) and maybe even unplug from social media.
But when you get back to reality, you’re faced with a backlog of emails to reply to, reports to send out or content to write making it hard to get the creative juices flowing again.
And it’s almost enough to regret taking time off in the first place no matter how bad you need it.
The next thing you know, you’re working late and burning the candle at both ends like they say, trying to catch up. In the end, you achieve nothing.
This was me for years and because of that, the time I took off was far and few in between. I mean, who can relax when you know what’s waiting for you when you get back to work.
But I finally found a new approach and it’s been very helpful.
Here are three things I started doing to help me get the creative juices flowing and get back into work mode when I get back from vacation.
Plan Ahead
Before you go off on your vacation, it would be a good idea to try to get ahead of as many things as possible.
For example, for my clients, I like to schedule at least a couple days of social media content the week I get back online. This gives me two days to catch up on other items on my to-do list and then schedule content for the rest of the week.
Have A To-Do List Ready
There is nothing more frustrating that sitting in front of your computer wondering where the heck to begin when you get back to work. So before you go off on vacation, make sure you have a to-do list ready to go when you get back.
Ease Back In Slowly When You Return From Vacation
More than likely you’ll have a ton of things to do. And you’ll probably want to hit the ground running to get caught up on things. Been there, done that.
But in my experience in doing that I find myself getting anxious with all there is to do. And I work late, like very late, into the night playing catch up.
So ease back into your routine and don’t try to tackle your to-do’s all in one day. Yes we’re superwomen but even we have our limits.
Wrapping Up
I hope you’ll remember these tips the next time you go off on vacation. If you’ve got something to add, please share it in the comments section. And don’t forget to share this on social media!
