No one expected we would be going through a pandemic that would change our lives and that we would be working from home because of it.
And yet here we are.
The business world is like the entertainment industry. Regardless of what is going on around us, the show must go on. There are still strategies to plan and goals to make.
To be able to communicate with our team while we are away from the office is important.
Luckily, technology has given us the means to be able to touch base with our teams no matter where we are in the world.
And even when the day comes that we can all resume our normal lives and head back to the office, there may be some days you’ll have to work from home.
Tools To Use To Communicate With Your Team
In a recent blog post, I shared my tips to make your virtual meetings more productive. Now I want to follow up with the tools to communicate with your team during a lockdown or on days when you are working from home.
Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams has been by far the best foundational virtual work group tool. It is mostly stable, manages virtual meetings with good audio, video, chat and other features and my favorite part of MS Teams is that you can set up collaborative “teams” where you can manage workflows, projects, tasks and save and post files and links to any mini team you want to create around a topic. In this way, you can reduce your email and avoid collaborating directly in Sharepoint, which is quite clumsy. That said MS Teams leverages sharepoint on the backend for file management.
Use Bonfyre To Communicate With Your Team
For an internal social media platform, I prefer Bonfyre. Bonfyre can also be used as a collaboration tool for events, quick surveys and announcements. You can load event schedules, speaker info, supporting files etc. posting is as easy as on Instagram and you can reward people with badges – and even design your own. The best part of Bonfyre is it’s people. When you work with Bonfyre, it’s more than a platform. For a reasonable price you also get a consulting team to provide you with the analytics and help you get the most out of the platform.
WhatsApp and WeChat
Outside these tools, if you have an international team. Go where they are. Many company policies prohibit use of social media platforms due to IP or security concerns, however for quick updates or check ins these platforms can be very effective at keeping in touch. For me, other than texting, I use WhatsApp, used by my Europe team and WeChat for my China team.
Wrapping Up
I hope you find the tools in this post helpful and if you did, please share this with your colleagues on social media. If you have a favorite tool to communicate with your team, please share it in the comments below.
