This post is a bit off the beaten track for me but it’s something I have been thinking about writing for some time now.
You see, my work revolves around water. Mostly technology to take bad stuff out of water, purification and filtration. It’s a perfect job for me really. It feeds a passion for technology and a concern for our natural resources. Water is essential for life, it’s true but it’s also a work horse.
And this is the part most people can’t appreciate because it’s invisible.
That new iphone you got for Christmas? Not possible without ultra pure water in the manufacturing process. That new pair of jeans? No textile can be made without water. The lovely meal you serve the family? Of course, food preparation depends on safe water.
So by now you may be thinking, what’s your point? When do we get to the useful tips on how to manage work and family? Where is the funny working mom story? ZZZZzzzzzz…..
It’s a simple message really and one I hope we can all embrace – give thanks to water.
Brave Blue World – The Documentary
I had the honor of being involved in a documentary called Brave Blue World that will be out this November. It’s narrated by none other than Matt Damon who is also the co-founder of Water.org. It follows Paul O’Callaghan, a water industry expert and CEO of BlueTech Research as he visits sites around the world that are using novel ways of tackling existing water problems.
This documentary will challenge some of our most common assumptions and change how we think about water.

What If We Thanked Water
Every day there is something to be grateful for. And there is something about the end of the year that causes us to reflect on our lives and give thanks. I am simply suggesting that we include water on that list of things to thank.
Several years ago during bath time, I asked my then three-year old to thank her bath water. Before we pulled the plug and let her tubby water drain out. I said “make sure to thank the water.” And in her cute little 3-year old voice she says “thank you water.”
If she can do it, we all can. So, have you thanked water lately?
