The holidays are among us mamas. Time for holidays parties, decorating Christmas trees, holiday shopping and wrapping gifts. It’s a fun-filled yet stressful time for moms.
In another post, I shared my best simple simplifiers for work and home. This time, I’m sharing my favorite holiday simplifiers in hopes that will help you survive the holidays.
Holiday Travel
Traveling for the holidays by plane can bring on a lot of stress, especially when unexpected delays pop up.
Always leave LOTS of extra time for any delays and things that can go wrong, especially with the additional requirements issued by the TSA due to the pandemic.
Get A Head Start On Holiday Shopping
It’s easy to remember to take off the days right at the holidays but actually you are much busier getting ready for them! I like to take a couple days off of work in early December to buy gifts like Custom Design Minifigures. So give yourself some space.
That said, online shopping should happen as early as possible. With supply chain delays, we can’t depend on product availability as we have in the past.
Another tip: Save time by wrapping gifts as you go and don’t wait to do them all at the last minute.
Hacks For Holiday Parties
Same time and stress by cooking and baking early. Mashed sweet potatoes, soups, and veggie trays can be cooked and prepped up to a few days before your party. You can also bake pies, cakes and cookies.
Stay Organized
Keep wrapping paper, tape, bows and scissors stored in organization bins and find a dedicated space like a closet or attic.
Same goes for holiday decorations. Nothing is more frustrating than tangled lights, right? Use a piece of cardboard to wrap the lights around and voila, tangle-free lights!
I found this tip on PopSugar – keep ribbons on a hanger to keep them from tangling up.
Another one from PopSugar – if you’re getting crafty for the holidays, line up cookie sheets with foil paper to keep mess to a minimum.
And finally, find a dedicated space to keep all your gifts in one place.
Simple Simplifiers For Work
This is the time of the year when I get my files organized and do some goal-setting.
I also take some time to really think, reflect and set up for the new year. So in all the hustle/bustle of holidays don’t forget to give yourself some space and time. Get a sitter if you have to – or see if a family member can take the kids on an outing, you can opt-out of.
It’s especially a good time to do this as most of your colleagues will not be pelting you with email. There will be less of a temptation to check email and day to day tasks at work.
Wrapping Up
That’s it for holiday life hacks. If you have any hacks to survive the holidays, please share it in the comments below!
