This working mom confession is from a dear friend of mine who wishes to remain anonymous.
There I was, completely prepared and ready to go. I was 20 minutes away from hosting a webinar for 300 people. Some of whom were already showing up in the queue. The presentation was done and loaded onto the platform. And the technical presenters were prepared and professionally dressed (at least from the waist up).
I have conducted a number of technical training webinars and even some with well-known industry leaders in water sustainability. Each one is still a little nerve-wracking, but for some reason on this occasion, I felt really calm.
Then I got the phone call.
It was my daughter’s daycare. I recognized the number. My stomach sank. This can’t be good. I go off camera, on mute and answer the phone.
“Hello?”
“Hi yes I am calling about your daughter Valerie.”
My mind is racing…my sweet four-year old, is she hurt? Is she sick? It was neither of these but just as bad.
“Um, we don’t have her swimsuit and it’s water day. Should we keep her inside today?”
I didn’t even think, just said “I will be right there,” grabbed her suit, which was strategically forgotten on the kitchen counter, and flew out of the house doing some quick math as I snapped my seatbelt.
Working Mom Confession 18: I Almost Missed A Webinar For A Swimsuit
Ok, daycare is five minutes away, five minutes to drop off the suit, five minutes back, get back to my desk and go live with the webinar.
With the adrenaline coursing through my veins, I raced to daycare, dropped off the suit and was back on the webinar with 30 seconds to spare until go-live.
From the outside in, this may have seemed a bit drastic (I mean really, dropping everything for a swimsuit?). But if you are a working mom, you know that your kiddo can’t be left by herself when all her friends are frolicking in the water. There is really no question. The guilt would just be too much.
Us moms have to be the superhero sometimes. So make sure your cape is handy at all times!
So that’s it for this Friday Confession.

Whew that’s stressful and amazing she got back on time. I might have said just play in her real clothes and after my meeting I’ll come bring a change ha.
