You would think by now after three kids and almost 60 baby teeth I would have figured out the Tooth Fairy but alas it is not so.
My youngest hadn’t lost a tooth for a while so maybe I was just out of practice – but let’s face it, that is just an excuse.
So when she literally ripped her baby tooth out of her mouth, my anxiety started to rise. “Don’t forget, don’t forget, don’t forget.” What did I do?
I forgot.
I Almost Missed The Tooth Fairy – Again
And I didn’t just casually forget either. I wrote a note on my hand. I asked my husband to remind me… “just one thing you need to do tonight is remind me…” And I still went up to bed and went fast asleep without a care in the world.
Then I woke up to my daughter’s voice, “she didn’t come.” My gut sank and mom guilt kicked in high gear. Ugh!
Then I got lucky. “Mom, the tooth is on my dresser, maybe she didn’t come because I didn’t put it under my pillow.” “oh that must be it…” WHEW.
Now I have a second chance. Back to the note on my hand, get the money ready, put my kid to bed. Did I remember?
No I did not.
But lightning struck twice and I got lucky again. Perhaps it was the Tooth Fairy that woke me at 5 a.m., at which time I realized I still hadn’t slipped the money under her sweet head. So I snuck downstairs, got the dollar bill, and gingerly placed it under her pillow.
But do you think I found the tooth under there? No, I didn’t. And I didn’t want to dig too much or she would wake, so I went back to bed hoping it would all work out in the morning.
7 a.m. and she is running into our bedroom, “she came! The Tooth Fairy came!” She was so happy but there was the problem of her bloody tooth still somewhere under her pillow so when she went to brush her teeth, I foraged in her bed and found it.
Wrapping Up
All in all, a lot of work for the lowest mythical being, right down there with the Leprechaun on St. Patrick’s day, but seeing the joy on her face to have a bit of money for the pain and trouble of losing her tooth made it all worthwhile.
